Re-View
has perfected the skill of installing storm windows on historic
windows without compromising the original look of the system.
Although the term storm windows and historic should not be spoken
in the same breath, we often find projects where a storm window
is a good application for preserving a historic look and upgrading
the performance of the window system. The Re-View team has worked
with several storm window manufacturers who are very sensitive
to the historic requirements of a steel or wood window system
and have developed high-quality products that minimize the sightlines
of a typical storm window. |
Re-View
has installed storm windows on either the interior or the exterior
of the window system. We have found it an excellent way to upgrade
the energy performance and condensation control for steel windows.
By installing an interior storm on a steel window system, Re-View
can maintain the historic exterior without having to replace the
units. Storm windows can provide the following benefits to a typical
historic project:
Energy
Savings
Energy loss through a typical window opening can be reduced by almost
50% by installing a storm window. Storm windows can be as energy-efficient
as new windows, but at a fraction of the cost.
Comfort
Drafts and uneven heating or cooling problems can be virtually eliminated.
Storms are an excellent solution for an office environment where
energy efficiency is desired.
|
Condensation
Condensation can be a serious problem for a structure especially
with historic steel windows in a Northern climate. Storm windows
can dramatically improve the window systems ability to control
condensation.
Sound
In urban hotel or loft apartment applications where sound
control is important, a storm window can dramatically improve
the STC rating of the window system. Re-View can use different
types of glass like laminated or insulated glass in the storm
to achieve the desired STC.

Maintenance
An exterior storm window will improve the life of the finish and
glazing putty of the window system. Exterior storm windows that
are properly installed will also protect the sill of the window
system, which is the part of a wood window that suffers the most
abuse.
Protection
Re-View can install special glazing in the storm windows to provide
security from vandals. Laminated glass can deter break ins in security
conscious areas.
