Wood Storm Windows

Re-View has a great deal of experience in adapting historic wood windows with a wood storm window to improve the energy performance and STC of the window system. We offer a turnkey service of design, fabrication, and installation to assure that the system will function properly and not detract from the historic significance of the property.

DESIGN & ENGINEERING
Re-View has several engineers on staff who have extensive historic window backgrounds. They are capable of attending to the intricate details of adapting a new wood storm window to the frame of an existing restored window. Details like window site lines, structural requirements, rain screen technology, weep design, and fastening techniques have been perfected on the many past Re-View projects. We recommend submitting detailed shop drawings of the storm window installation and then providing submittals and mock ups to be approved prior to full-scale fabrication. What appears to be an insignificant element to the total window system can become a major problem on the tail end of a project.

These heavy duty, stainless steel storm hangers feature reversible sash brackets enabling their use on either flush or offset mounted wood storms.

WOOD SPECIES
Re-View can fabricate its wood storm windows from any desired wood species. We recommend using more durable hardwood species like mahogany or cypress. We also encourage the use of recycled heartwood lumber which tends to weather more effectively than new growth materials. Re-View has extensive supplies of reclaimed long leaf yellow pine, tank cypress, and sinker cypress for use on its wood storm windows.

GLASS
Re-View can utilize virtually any type of glass desired for its wood storm windows. The only limiting factor is the structural design required to guarantee a durable product that will perform in the long run. The last thing you want to do is invest in a 3/16th inch laminated glass storm window only to discover the frame disintegrating five years from now. We have used clear plate, hard coat Low E, wavy restoration glass, and laminated in our wood storm windows.

HARDWARE
There are many different types of hardware that can be utilized to install our wood storm windows. The best option depends upon the design of the existing window and the desires of the owner. We can use mechanically fastened systems that can only be removed by the facilities maintenance staff or use a number of devices that allow the building occupants to adjust the storm to allow for ventilation.

This cam action fastener is a solid brass assembly designed to fasten the wood storm into the frame with minimal visible hardware.
