RESTORATION
- FRAME RESTORATION
Re-View
has the experience and resources to restore virtually any historic
wood window frame and wood sills. We believe all historic buildings
should be treated with respect. Existing conditions are to be carefully
treated. We have proven this on thousands of windows across the
country with the greatest success without having to radically replace
the original fabric of the window, proven by time over time.
WOOD
SILLS
 |
The
wood sill is one of the most important structural aspects of
the wood window. If the sill has remained intact over time,
chances are the balance of the window is in great shape as well.
When the sills are in need of repair the Re-View team follows
a strict guideline for sill restoration. |
First,
all of the existing paint must be removed from the wood sill down
to bare wood and up each side of the frame jamb a minimum of 2".
Where the jamb frame and the sill meet we rake out any old paint
or old caulking and beneath the sill and treat it with liquid wood
epox. We continue to treat the wood sill and partial frame member
until the material will not absorb any more and apply wood epox.
All of the checks and gouges in the sill are filled and then sanded
smooth and prepared for paint finish. Where required we then complete
the same procedures on the frames and wood trim along the exterior
of the window.
FRAMES
| The
Re-View team has found if water has been kept out of the building
the majority of the window head frames and side jambs are going
to be in great shape. Where conditions require restoration or
simply a small section might need to be replaced the Re-View
carpenters can handle the task. |
 |
We have
found that in most cases a new weight box access door or minor repair
to brick mould is all is required. When more severe conditions occur,
the liquid wood and wood epox procedures are implemented on areas
throughout the frame.
