The City of Cambridge is renovating the currently unused City Hall Annex as a green building. The Annex, which was originally constructed in 1871 as the Harvard Grammar School, will include 28 kilowatts of roof-mounted photovoltaic panels, a ground source heat pump, daylighting, and numerous energy efficiency measures. Tens of thousands of citizens will pass through the building annually, making it a valuable public showcase of renewable energy technologies and green building.

PROJECT NAME Cambridge City Hall
PROJECT LOCATION Cambridge, Massachusetts
PROJECT ARCHITECT HKT Architects
PROJECT GENERAL CONTRACTOR Consigli Construction Co., Inc.
NUMBER OF WINDOWS 108
SCOPE OF WORK Supply aluminum clad wood monumental double hungs with a black Kynar exterior finish and special historic hardware.

A key element in upgrading the efficiency of this historic structure is the replacement of the windows with a manufactured aluminum-clad wood window. Re-View performed all field measurements and supplied shop drawings and window units for installation by the general contractor. This project is a prime example of how a manufactured window can be used to upgrade the energy efficiency of the building envelope while maintaining a reasonable level of historic relevance.
